Alim Erginoğlu was born in 1974, in Zonguldak, Turkey. He grew up in Levent, İstanbul. He was a boarder at Koç School and studied violin at İstanbul University Conservatorium. He graduated from Bilkent University Faculty of International Relations and then got his M.A. degree in European Union Politics at Marmara University European Community Institute. He worked in the private sector in the fields of “external and corporate relations”. Also, he took part in the EU consumer law harmonization, representing the electric and electronic sector in the Foreign Trade Office. His interest in history, geography and world cultures led him become a “traveller”. While everybody was travelling to the west, he went to the east with his wife Rachel. With a backpack, he went on a 194 day Southeast Asia expedition, including the countries Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei and Borneo Island. This expedition changed his views and perceptions about life. After he returned from his expedition, he wrote his book: “A Turk, An English woman and Notes from a 3 Penny World”. He continues to write travel articles for several magazines and on his web site http://alimrachel.blogspot.com . Alim Erginoğlu lives between Oxford and İstanbul and works as a freelance writer.
