MURAT OPUS

Murat Opus, studied Classical Guitar before his composition training. After his Classical Music Training he decided to focus upon Jazz and intensively studied Jazz composition. Throughout his studies cooperated with famous Jazz musicians like Lawrence Butch Morris, Ricky Ford, Mike Wilkens, Aydin Esen, Can Kozlu, Ali Perret, Neset Ruacan. During his graduate education, he studied contemporary composition techniques and jazz composition methods. He cooperated with well-known Turkish composer Prof. Ilhan Usmanbas. During the same period he collaborated with internationally-known musicians, critics and thinkers such as Francesco Martinelli, Ricky Ford and Huseyin Alptekin.

Live conduction, a brand new trend in music, was his project for his Masters thesis. This method surpasses the classical principles of composition and provides the composer and player with more flexible spaces. Its one of the main aim is to bring out an environment which supports a collective creativity between both composer and players.

During the same period in his host institution he taught in cooperation with other academics. Among these were Lawrence Butch Morris, Ali Perret and Huseyin Alptekin. Independently carried out several extensive studies on music history, ensemble and analysis. Prepared guest artists programs with particular themes for each session.

Keen to be experimental and progressive in his approach to music, he never wished to stay within the established boundaries and principles. He always incorporated new styles, trends and approaches such as acoustic, electro- acoustic, electronic music and avant-garde movements. He conducted projects and performances with “Rhythm and Mood Orchestra”, which he independently organized. Other than these, he organized several projects in cooperation with other arts such as video-art, theater, cinema, photography and dance and highly regards the value of interdisciplinary approach among different arts.
